The short version. Ownhand makes a font from your handwriting on your iPhone or iPad, and it stays there.
- Your handwriting and the fonts made from it never leave your device, unless you share a font yourself.
- There is no account. We don't know who you are.
- No ads, no tracking, and this version sends no analytics.
This policy covers the Ownhand app for iPhone and iPad, made by OpenSoftLabs LLC ("we"). It says what the app keeps, and the one time it talks to anyone else.
Your handwriting and your fonts
You write each letter in a box on the screen, with a finger or an Apple Pencil. Ownhand saves the pen strokes (their position, pressure and timing), the name you give the font and the settings you choose, in the app's storage on your device. It builds the font file from those strokes on the device too. No stroke, letter or font is sent anywhere to do this.
Like anything in an app's storage, this is included in your device's own backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer) if you use them, under Apple's terms. We have no copy.
Installing a font
iOS installs fonts made by apps through a configuration profile. When you tap Install font, Ownhand builds that profile and hands it to Safari over a connection inside your own device (the address 127.0.0.1). It does not go over the internet. You then approve it in Settings, and the font is available to your other apps. You can remove it any time in Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
Sharing a font
If you tap Share TTF, the font file goes to the app or person you pick in the share sheet, and nowhere else. Once you share it, it is with whoever you shared it with. A font made from your handwriting carries your handwriting, so share it the way you would share a handwritten note.
Update check
When it opens, Ownhand reads a small file from opensoftlabs.org that says the oldest version still supported, so a version with a serious bug can ask to be updated. That request sends nothing about you or your fonts; our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) sees your IP address, as with any web page.
Reminders and feedback
If you turn on Remind me to finish a font in Settings, Ownhand schedules one notification on your device. It is created and shown by your device; nothing is sent to us to do it.
After a few fonts, Ownhand may ask how it is going. If you write what would make it better, that text is saved on your device only. It is not sent to us.
What we don't do
- We don't have accounts, and we don't ask for your name, email or contacts.
- We don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't collect analytics in this version, and we don't sell or share any data.
Deleting your data
Everything Ownhand keeps is on your device. Swipe a font in the list to delete it, with its strokes and its file. Deleting the app removes everything it saved. Fonts you installed stay installed until you remove their profile in Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
Children
Ownhand is not directed at children under 13. It asks no one for personal information and sends nothing about the person using it.
Changes
If what Ownhand does with your data changes, for example if a later version adds anonymous usage counts, this page changes first, with a new effective date at the top.
